Following earlier news that they are set to release a next-generation Android One device, local player Cherry Mobile has officially launched the One G1 as their sequel to the modest One of last year.
Unknown to many, the Android One initiative is Google’s attempt for users to discover (or rediscover) the full potentials of the Android Operating System. Case in point is the fact that the Smartphones come with a full stock Android feel and is secured to have the latest firmware updates in the process. The line also tags an initial bearing for those who are new to the Android cum Smartphone community by giving them a budget friendly option that’s easy to use, too.
The Cherry Mobile G1 on the other hand is quite an upgrade when compared to the One. The latter was a near modest gadget that sported entry-level specifications and, truth be told, it wasn’t really that appealing. But what makes Cherry Mobile and of course, Google special is that they were able to bounce back and decided to tweak things a little bit.
To start the ball rolling, the G1 will be a mid-tier Smartphone and in cases like these, one is guaranteed that it would be step higher than most conventional devices in the market. For one, it will flaunt a 5-inch HD display screen (1,280×720 resolution) with Dragontail coating to protect it from rigorous use and OneCell technology. At the back is a matte black casing that complements two chrome linings that navigates the sides of the device. Its bezels are okay for its price tag, too: not too thin, not too thick, either. On the right side are the volume rocker and power button, while down south is the USB port and speaker grilles.
Inside is an updated 64-bit, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor (a big break from the MediaTeck SoC of the previous offering), 2GB of RAM, an Adreno 306 graphics card, 16GB of onboard memory (expandable up to 32GB via microSD card), a 13megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, a 5megapixel front clicker, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and the usual on-top-of-the-table basics such as Dual-SIM/Dual-Standby mode, 4G LTE and 3G networks, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.
On the overall, the Cherry Mobile One G1 is a breath of fresh air if you’re looking for much needed upgrade. It will offer a slightly bumped performance thanks to its new processor and a more vivid viewing experience to boot. It will not disappoint in design, too, since the matte black casing and the chrome strips complement each other. It will be priced at around P6,000.00 and will be available by the end of the month.
